Whales and dolphins migrating from the north Atlantic are usually seen in the waters around the Virgin Islands from December through March. Most prevalent are bottle-nosed dolphin and humpback whales. Educational whale watching excursions are typically announced by environmental groups a few weeks prior to their intended outing. Such tours are most popular around February-March.
